DIY Ikea Garage Shopping List

Hi All - I love how this Garage post is trending again on TikTok and Pinterest a year after install (AND FTR it is holding up great - even in humid TN!) I have been asked many times for a more complete shopping list so I created an easy to follow list. (Prices have also gone up since my original install - which I guess is to be expected).

Also, I highly recommend this post I wrote that shows you a much easier way to add all these items to your cart, so you don’t have to search item by item. When you do this, the IKEA planner just adds all the things you will need for install (i.e. hinges, railings for baskets, wall anchors, etc). Yay!

So without further ado, here is the complete list!

IKEA Shopping List:

  • PAX, Wardrobe Frame, white, 39 3/8x22 7/8x92 7/8 "

  • BERGSBO Door, white, 19 1/2x90 3/8 "

  • KALLAX, Shelf Unit, white, 16 1/2x57 7/8

  • HEMNES, TV Unit, white stain/light brown, 58 1/4x18 1/2x22 1/2

  • Inside the PAX System - I used, these KOMPLEMENT baskets, but you can customize with shelves, rods, etc.

  • KOMPLEMENT, Soft Closing Hinges

  • We also trimmed out the top of the entire unit to make it more custom, we used BODBYN, Contoured Deco Strip, off-white, 87x2 3/8 - definitely optional but I think it looks more custom.

This is basically the shell of what you need from Ikea (+ doors and whatever you want inside)

Other Items You’ll Need:

  • Handles or Knobs for doors

  • Bike Holder

  • Hooks

  • White Paintable Caulk to fill Trim Cuts

  • 5 3/4” Trim Piece to place under the Hemnes Dresser

  • 2 1/2” white MDF board for back

  • Paint for area in back is Alabaster by Sherwin Williams

  • I don’t see the exact bins I bought from container store, but these ones might work!

  • We also built a bin to store rakes and stuff in that is just a painted piece wood with a 2x4 base - nothing fancy
